Haikus about love and stuff

Taking the first step
Following a clear paved road
Is not what love is

Traveling by light
But running back home in night
Is not what love is

Drowning in pleasure
Rejecting another's pain
Is not what love is

To stay is to love
When the darkness suffocates
To love is to stay

More Haikus

Old river empties
Into a dark, tranquil lake
Taking a deep breath

Night crawls up the trees,
Blackness cutting into the
Sunset's fiery wall

Sapling stretches out,
His tiny green limbs reaching
Into the great blue

A New Short Story and Changes to this blog

Dearest, Darlingest Readers,

As of today, I will no longer be posting my short stories though Blogger. I was informed that if I want to publish them in the future, I can't publish them here because of copyright-related reasons that I don't know much about.

Instead, I've created an AuthorStand account. If you'd like to read my short stories, you may download them here. In fact, I've posted August's short story there, so PLEASE download the PDF and tell me what you think of it.

God bless,

Maddi

Phoenix Free-write

Winds, gently blow.
More gently.
Calm.
Stir not my ashes
So fragile.
Let not the charred bone
Collapse.
Keep still.
Keep me still.
For I am a phoenix
And I shall arise again.
My broken bones will grow solid
And reconnect
And sprout plumage of gold
Purple
And blue,
Shining in the sunlight.
But collecting myself
Gathering myself together
Hurts.
Hurts every time.
Winds, gently blow.
Gently.

UPDATE: 12 Stories in 12 Months

Hello, lovely readers.

Well, my quest to write 12 short stories within a one-year time frame is underway. I've finished my first story and am making plans for the second one.

No, I will not be posting it to this blog quite yet. It's still *very* first-draft-y. I'm thinking I'll rewrite it soon, as a novella instead of a short story. My main character turned out to be more complex than I'd planned on, and I want to dig deeper into his psyche in the rewrite.

Speaking of "psyche", read "Till We Have Faces" by C.S. Lewis.

God bless,

Maddi

Safety

She was lost, so I told her, "Come into the light."
Curious, she stepped outside
Just long enough to see them.
"See how safe we are?"
But she saw the ones who were hiding in fear.
"See how blessed we are?"
But she saw the ones who hoarded their goods and the ones who were empty-handed.
"See how loving we are?"
But she saw the ones who preyed on the weak like day-dwelling vampires.
"You'll be happy here."
But she saw the ones whose eyes held no light, no hope, no future.
After a while, she gave a sad smile,
And out of a desire of self-preservation said, "Good bye,"
Retreating to the safety of her cave.

Four Haikus

O Moon, so alone,
Do you weep for your lover
Although among stars?

Angry Thunder roars
But the sound of her teardrops
Lulls me to sweet rest
